Joint statement issued by Oman and Iran
In response to an invitation from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Excellency Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Monday 23 May.
The visit comes in the context of the solid historical ties that unite the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran and their two friendly peoples. The visit aims to strengthen the close bilateral relations between the two countries and to confirm the appreciation and mutual respect between the leaderships of the two countries and their peoples, rooted in the principles of religion, brotherhood and good neighbourliness.
An official session of talks was held between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Ebrahim Raisi.
During the session they reviewed the prospects for joint cooperation and the development of bilateral relations, especially those related to trade and investment cooperation in various fields and coordination in matters that serve the interests of the two friendly countries and bring benefits to their peoples.
They expressed their satisfaction with the existing level of cooperation and decided to continue strengthening it and open up new areas of economic partnership. The two leaders also expressed their happiness at the consensus reached at the level of joint committees for cooperation between the two countries in various fields and agreed on the necessity of holding them on a regular basis.
His Majesty the Sultan and his brother, the President of Iran also stressed the positive and fruitful role played by the private sector in the two countries. They expressed the hope that these activities would lead to an increase in the volume of investment and trade exchanges between the two countries. They also welcomed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding to boost cooperation in the fields of investment, sports, agricultural, fish and livestock, maritime transport, ports, the logistics sector and oil and gas.
His Majesty the Sultan and his brother, the President of Iran, discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, expressing their satisfaction with the level of political consultation and coordination at various levels.
They stressed the importance of redoubling efforts to ensure the continuation of security and stability in the region and the world and the importance of coordination and consultation between the two sides in regional and international forums on issues that serve security and stability both in the region and the world.
His Majesty the Sultan valued what the President of Iran and his government are doing in adopting a constructive, effective and broad policy based on the principles of Iranian policy and openness with all countries, especially neighbouring countries. He noted that this is leading to positive and constructive relations based on mutual respect, cooperation and good neighbourliness. He stressed that the development of common economic, commercial and cultural interests contribute to strengthening regional security and stability.
The two sides also stressed the importance of combating terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations.
At the conclusion of the visit, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the Government and people of the Sultanate of Oman for their warm reception and generous hospitality.
The Iranian President extended a brotherly invitation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was warmly welcomed by His Majesty.
