The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Foreign Ministry, participated today in a virtual ministerial meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

Oman was represented by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources; the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

The meeting discussed the results of the evaluation of the current IORA action plan (2017-2021) and reviewed proposals related to the next plan.

The meeting approved a management strategy to ensure IORA benefits to the maximum from the participation of its partners in dialogue about its tasks and to ensure that partners are kept up to date on the latest developments regarding the memoranda of understanding that IORA plans to sign with a group of international organisations.

The IORA includes 22 countries and aims to enhance cooperation between member states, especially in the economic field.
