Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Cyprus

Bilateral relations

Bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Cyprus date back to the opening of the honorary consulate in Nicosia in 1982.

Diplomatic relations started in 2000 with the appointment of a non-resident ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, followed by the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Muscat in 2010 and then the opening of the Omani Embassy in Cyprus on June 15th, 2013.

In 2014, the first round of political consultations was held between the two countries within the framework of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2013.

Consular services

The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman offers a range of consular services including a document legalisation/attestation service as well as emergency assistance to Omani citizens visiting Cyprus.

Key objectives

The goals of the mission of the Sultanate of Oman in the Republic of Cyprus are as follows:

  • To enhance political cooperation and diplomatic relations between the two countries
  • To enhance security and defence cooperation
  • To facilitate trade and boost investment between the two countries
  • To motivate cultural, educational and scientific cooperation
  • To provide support and protection for the interests of Omani citizens in the Republic of Cyprus

Political and diplomatic cooperation

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Cyprus are in harmony regarding many regional and international issues.

The Republic of Cyprus is a member of the European Union but it resembles Oman in some traditions and its geographical location contributes to its understanding of the culture of the region more than other European countries.

Trade and investment

Officials from both sides, through their visits, seek to promote new economic, commercial, scientific, research and cultural projects to serve the common interests of the two countries.

There are also promising prospects for cooperation between the two friendly countries on the economic level, given the capabilities they enjoy and their willingness to enter into commercial and investment partnerships.

Educational and scientific exchanges

Relations between Oman and Cyprus in the field of higher education are flourishing as the number of Omani students on scholarships to study in Cypriot higher education institutions is growing.

Nine educational institutions in the Republic of Cyprus are recommended by Oman's Ministry of Higher Education.
