The closing statement of 31st Arab Summit
The final statement of the 31st Arab Summit, which ended in Algeria today, underlined the necessity of adhering to all elements of the Arab Peace Initiative to solve the Palestinian issue.
The “Algeria Declaration” affirmed the rejection of foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries in all its forms. It called for the adherence to the principle of finding solutions to problems by strengthening the role of the League of Arab States in preventing and solving crises by peaceful means and working to strengthen relations.
The “Algeria Declaration” valued the constructive proposals made by the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at activating the role of the Arab League in preventing and resolving conflicts, consolidating the popular dimension and enhancing the position of youth and innovation in joint Arab action.
He stressed the need to launch an interactive dynamic between official Arab institutions and civil society, by creating spaces for exchanging ideas, fruitful discussion and constructive dialogue, with the aim of encouraging the participation of all in uniting to meet the challenges posed.
He called for a commitment to redouble efforts to realise the project of Arab economic integration in line with a comprehensive vision that ensures optimal exploitation of the components of Arab economies and the precious opportunities they offer. The aim of this would be to activate fully the Greater Arab Free Trade Area in preparation for the establishment of the Arab Customs Union.
He stressed the importance of concerted efforts to enhance collective Arab capabilities in responding to the challenges posed to food, health and energy security and in confronting climate change. He noted the need to develop cooperation mechanisms for the Arab Labour Organisation in these areas.
The statement also called for the need to strengthen joint Arab action to protect Arab national security in the widest sense and in all its dimensions.
He said the Arab countries should play a collective role in efforts to reach a political solution through dialogue to the crises in Yemen, Libya and Syria.
The final statement of the summit also affirmed the support for Arab countries that are facing difficult political, economic and security conditions.
The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud announced that Saudi Arabia will host the next session of the Arab summit.
