Foreign Minister heads Omani delegation to Sustainable Development Goals Summit

On a mandate from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, headed the Sultanate’s delegation to the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Summit, which began its work today at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Sayyid Badr delivered the Sultanate of Oman’s speech at the opening of the summit, during which he conveyed the greetings of His Majesty and his appreciation for the efforts made in organising this important summit.

In his speech the Minister said that the summit was happening at a time of increasing importance for joint efforts to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

Sayyid Badr said that Oman is making tangible efforts towards achieving the sustainable development goals, as it has made technology, science and digital transformation an essential part of its national strategies and legislation.

He noted that the Sultanate of Oman hopes to submit its second voluntary national report in 2024, which will highlight its strong commitment to achieving the goals and to continuing progress in social, economic, scientific, environmental and renewable energy fields.

The Minister added that Oman’s path towards achieving the sustainable development goals, as set out in Oman Vision 2040, reflects the Sultanate's strong commitment to science, technology and innovation. He said Oman is also supporting international cooperation to transfer knowledge and technology and to facilitate investment and job opportunities to ensure a safe and prosperous future for all.

Sayyid Badr said that achieving the sustainable development goals requires integration and cooperation between various sectors, a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved and the development of innovative solutions.
