Oman participates in GCC EU meeting

The Sultanate of Oman participated today in a meeting in Brussels of the Joint Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union.

The meeting dealt with Gulf-European relations, especially with regard to the Gulf-European Free Trade Agreement and cooperation in the field of clean energy, maritime security and climate change.

Views were also exchanged on regional and international developments of interest to the Gulf and European sides.

The Omani delegation was headed by Sheikh Khalifa Al Harthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs.

The meeting was chaired from the Gulf side by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the current session of the Cooperation Council. The European Union delegation was chaired by His Excellency Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. Also taking part was Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Secretary-General of the GCC as well as senior representatives from the GCC and European sides.

The meeting also was attended by Najim bin Sulaiman Al-Abri, the Sultanate of Oman's ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and head of its mission to the European Union and the ambassadors of Gulf Cooperation Council countries accredited to the European Union.
