The Central Bank of Oman announces the end of the use of certain categories of banknotes

Central Bank of Oman to withdraw some banknotes from circulation

Earlier this year, the Central Bank of Oman announced the withdrawal as legal tender in the Sultanate of  Oman of certain banknotes issued before 2020  (pre-sixth issue).

The following banknotes will cease to be valid 360 days from the date of publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette:

– The 1 Omani Rial, 1/2 Omani Rial, 200 Baisa, and 100 Baisa denominations issued by the Central Bank in November 1995.

– The 50 Omani Rials, 20 Omani Rials, 10 Omani Rials, and 5 Omani Rials denominations issued by the Central Bank in November 2000.

– The 1 Omani Rial commemorative issue of 2005.

– The 20 Omani Rials commemorative issue of 2010.

– The 50 Omani Rials, 10 Omani Rials, and 5 Omani Rials denominations issued by the Central Bank in 2011 and 2012.

The Central Bank urges all holders of these banknotes to exchange them at licensed banks within the specified 360-day period, that is by December 31st 2024, as these currencies will no longer be valid for trading after this period.
