Ambassador Idris Alkhanjari , Oman’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, met Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
During the meeting, the original instrument relating to Oman joining the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement was presented, reaffirming the country’s commitment to contributing effectively to international efforts to curb harmful subsidies that encourage overfishing and to protect marine ecosystems.
Ambassador Alkhanjari reaffirmed Oman’s determination to safeguard its marine resources and to participate constructively in the second round of fisheries negotiations, while supporting the balanced and inclusive implementation of the agreement.
He noted that Oman had submitted its proposal to join the Fish Fund, which aims to provide technical assistance to developing countries and strengthen cooperation with international institutions such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization.
