With a clear vision and steady progress, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik continues to strengthen partnerships with countries around the world and expand cooperation in support of the Sultanate of Oman’s economic diversification.
His Majesty’s state visit to the Republic of Botswana reflects his vision to expand investment opportunities in promising markets, including across Africa, in ways that benefit Oman, its people and the peoples of these countries.
The visit represents an important milestone in Oman-Botswana relations and an opportunity to exchange views on issues of mutual interest and explore ways to develop economic and investment cooperation. It also aims to strengthen ties between the business communities of both countries and create new opportunities for the private sector.
The two countries have been working to strengthen their cooperation and expand it into new areas. Two visits by President Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana to Oman provided significant momentum to relations.
The visits resulted in the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covering mining, energy, petroleum product storage, solar energy and medical cooperation in line with Botswana’s needs.
Botswana’s announcement in July to exempt Omani passport holders from entry visas for stays of up to 90 days reflects efforts to strengthen ties between the peoples of the two countries, facilitate trade and economic exchanges and advance bilateral cooperation. It comes amid growing interest in strengthening economic and commercial ties and exploring new opportunities in areas of mutual interest.
The two countries signed strategic agreements in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, in November 2025 to develop renewable energy projects with a total capacity of up to 3,000 megawatts, to cooperate in mineral exploration across Botswana’s unexplored territory and to develop petroleum product storage facilities in order to strengthen energy security and regional trade.
Abdulsalam Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, told the Oman News Agency that the visit aims to build on the cooperation already achieved between the two countries.
He said that relations between Oman and Botswana represent a model of mutual trust, noting that they have rapidly progressed from initial meetings to reciprocal visits, leading to investment agreements and projects, some of which have already moved to the implementation stage with the laying of foundation stones.
Faisal Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told the Oman News Agency that there is strong potential for Oman and Botswana to expand their economic partnership, supported by a shared commitment to sustainable development, openness to markets and a greater role for the private sector, in ways that serve the interests of both countries and their peoples.
He added that mining, agriculture, livestock, food security, tourism and logistics represent important areas for investment and the exchange of expertise.
