The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 16th Ministerial Conference of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “Shaping the Future: Advancing Economic Transformation for Fair, Inclusive and Sustainable Development.” Oman’s delegation was headed by Qais Alyousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, with the participation of Ambassador

They discussed the possibility of opening a Swiss Business Hub to facilitate the entry of Swiss products and enhance direct trade.

The meeting reviewed the strong relations between Oman and Switzerland, affirming the importance of efforts to strengthen cooperation.

The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The discussions included the annual report of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General, as well as reports from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, particularly the annual updates from the independent international fact-finding mission in the occupied Palestinian territories. They exchanged expertise in humanitarian aid and development.

His Highness Sayyid Nizar bin Al Julanda Al Said, Oman’s Ambassador to the Italian Republic; and Mahmoud bin Hamad Al Hasani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Switzerland and non-resident Ambassador to the Vatican, participated in the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis.

In his speech, Oman’s Ambassador said the right to food is fundamental to ensuring human dignity.
