Gulf-European summit backs ceasefire efforts in Gaza and Lebanon
The final statement of the first joint summit between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU), held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, highlighted the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between both organisations to achieve global security and peace.
It also called for intensifying cooperation to resolve regional and international crises.
The statement supported efforts to halt the fighting in Gaza and Lebanon, condemning attacks targeting civilians and infrastructure. It reaffirmed the commitment to securing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination through a two-state solution in line with international resolutions.
The statement also urged the immediate and unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the opening of all crossings to ensure aid reaches the population, while supporting the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
It condemned attacks against UN missions, particularly the recent assault on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), noting the importance of its role in maintaining stability.
The statement called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint in light of rising tensions in the Middle East.
It emphasised the need for collective action within the framework of the strategic partnership to enhance security, prosperity and peace at both the global and regional levels, including addressing shared security challenges such as combating terrorism and ensuring maritime and cyber security.
