Published On: 11 January 2021

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik today issued two Royal Decrees Nos 6/2021 and 7/2021 on the promulgation of the Basic Statute of the State and the law governing the Council of Oman.

The new basic law issued by His Majesty the Sultan includes provisions to appoint a Crown Prince.

It also emphasises the role of the state in ensuring more rights and freedoms for citizens, including equality between men and women, and the principle of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary as the basis for rule in the Sultanate.

The Basic Statute of the State is Oman’s constitution. It sets out the legal framework for the development and implementation of all legislation and government policy.
