Oman and Libya hold political talks

Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, held discussions this morning with Dr Najla Elmangoush, the Libyan Foreign Minister during her official visit to the Sultanate.

The two Ministers affirmed their mutual keenness to enhance fraternal relations and constructive cooperation between Oman and Libya and their peoples. They reviewed bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields and discussed how to develop that cooperation to secure benefits for both countries.

Dr Elmangoush spoke of the efforts to achieve political consensus within Libya and the role played by the United Nation's special envoy on Libya.

Sayyid Badr expressed Oman's firm support for those efforts. He said the Sultanate supported endeavours to build consensus between the various Libyan parties and, with the help of the United Nations and brotherly and friendly countries, to preserve the unity and sovereignty of the State of Libya, to build its security and stability and to advance development programmes for all parts of the country.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of current regional and international issues of common concern, stressing the importance of dialogue and peaceful, diplomatic means in achieving security, stability and prosperity for all.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Khaled Almuslahi, Head of the Minister's Office, and a number of Foreign Ministry officials. It was also attended by Ayman Suleiman Saad, Chargé d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Oman and the delegation accompanying the Minister.
