Joint statement of the eighth session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee

The text of the joint statement of the eighth session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee reads as follows:

The eighth session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee held its meetings in Algeria on June 11 and 12, 2024. The Omani delegation was chaired by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi and the Algerian delegation was chaired by Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.

The two parties welcomed the convening of the joint committee again and expressed their satisfaction with the level of political consultation and coordination between the two countries at various levels and on all regional and international issues of common interest. They looked forward to strengthening this consultation and coordination in regional and international organisations and forums in order to achieve their common interests and the interests of the Arab and Islamic nations.

They praised the distinguished level reached by relations between the two countries thanks to the high directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said and Algerian President Andelmajdid Tebboune and their sponsorship to advance joint coordination and cooperation in various fields of interest to the two countries and the two brotherly peoples towards broader horizons.

Algeria appreciated the distinguished role played by the Sultanate of Oman under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said and his historical positions towards just Arab and international issues, to establish the foundations of security and peace in its regional and international surroundings.

Oman appreciated the pioneering role played by the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in order to consolidate peace and stability at the regional and international levels.

The two parties emphasised the depth of the historical ties and cultural and social connections that bring together the two brotherly peoples and the joint endeavour to raise these relations to the level of their aspirations and ambitions.

They discussed the latest developments in the situation on the regional and international arenas and their repercussions on peace, security and stability in the Arab region. The two parties stressed the necessity of uniting the Arab ranks and unifying efforts to confront the regional and international challenges facing the Arab region and the Palestinian issue. The two parties renewed their condemnation in the strongest terms and their strong denunciation of the heinous attacks committed by the forces of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, which amounts to war crimes and genocide. They also expressed their rejection of any attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The two parties affirmed the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent, sovereign state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also welcomed the order issued by the International Court of Justice obliging the Israeli occupation to immediately stop its aggression against Rafah and the announcement by Ireland, Spain, Norway and Slovenia of their recognition of the State of Palestine. They called on countries that have not yet recognised the Palestinian state to follow suit out of respect for international legitimacy and in accordance with relevant international resolutions.

The two parties also stressed the need for political solutions to the crises in a number of Arab countries and rejected foreign interference in all its forms.

Oman praised the efforts made by Algeria at the level of the UN Security Council to defend Arab and Islamic issues, especially the Palestinian issue. Algeria also praised the constructive efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to reduce tension and facilitate communication in the region.

The two sides reviewed the existing bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries and stressed the need to move forward to work towards improving them in all fields especially economic, commercial, investment, industrial, tourism, praising what the two sides achieved in the preparatory meetings of senior officials, and welcoming the signing of memorandums of understanding and executive programmes in the fields of social development, judiciary, national solidarity, youth, sports, standardisation and conformity, and the national archives, which would open new horizons for cooperation between the two countries in order to achieve their aspirations and hopes.

The two parties noted the fruitful meetings that brought together representatives of major companies, complexes and business leaders in the two countries in parallel with the holding of the eighth session of the Algerian-Omani Joint Committee. They also welcomed discussions and understandings in exploring promising investment opportunities between the two countries in several fields especially energy, renewable energy, petrochemicals, industry, pharmaceutical production, handling, transportation materials, construction, public works, agriculture, tourism, food and transformational industries and traditional industry.

At the conclusion of the committee meetings, Sayyid Badr renewed his expression of thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and generosity typical of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and his aspiration to host the work of the ninth session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee in the Sultanate of Oman.
