Oman calls for effective international role to end Israeli occupation of Palestine

Published On: 27 April 2022

The Sultanate of Oman has called for a more effective international role to end the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The call was made by Ambassador Dr Muhammad Alhassan, the Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations, in a speech to a meeting of the UN Security Council about developments on the Palestinian issue.

Dr Alhassan described the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories as dangerous and worrying, adding that the Security Council's failure to take practical and tangible steps to protect the Palestinian people under occupation, encourages the occupying Israeli authorities to carry out more attacks and violations.

He pointed out that reports of international bodies confirm the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is escalating due to repeated and unjustified Israeli aggression and violations against the Palestinian people.

He said this is in blatant breach of international law and relevant decisions of the Security Council such as resolutions 224 and 338 and the UN at large.

He expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s denunciation and condemnation of the provocative and illegal practices of Israel and its occupying forces in the Palestinian territories, as well as its incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Al-Haram Al-Sharif, saying that the attacks on peaceful and defenceless worshipers, are a flagrant violation of international law, values and human rights.

He stressed the Sultanate of Oman's call to the international community to assume its responsibilities to implement justice and law, end the occupation and achieve peace by restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish their independent state on all the territories occupied since June 6, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also expressed the Sultanate of Oman's welcome for the statement by the United Nations Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, and its hope that the parties would respond to the task entrusted to them and show the cooperation required to restore calm, security and stability to the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, especially Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
