Oman has commended the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on 19 July regarding the legal consequences of the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967 including East Jerusalem.

Oman affirmed that this opinion reflects the international community's commitment to the principles of justice and law. It called on Israel to end its illegal presence and compensate the Palestinian people for all damages caused by these policies.

In a statement delivered by Counsellor Khalid bin Saleh Alrubkhi, Oman’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during the resumed 10th Emergency Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Sultanate stated that the adoption of the advisory opinion is an important step in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people according to international legitimacy.

Oman urged the international community to ensure its implementation, work towards ending the occupation and to achieve a comprehensive and just solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Oman also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Gaza due to the ongoing blockade and military operations. It called for an immediate lifting of the blockade and for urgent delivery of humanitarian aid.

Oman stressed the importance of international efforts for reconstruction and ensuring a dignified life for Palestinians in Gaza by addressing humanitarian conditions alongside political efforts to achieve lasting and comprehensive peace.

In conclusion, Oman called on all member states to support the draft resolution before the General Assembly, considering such support not only a legal duty but also an ethical responsibility to protect the rights of peoples.

Oman reaffirmed its firm and principled position in supporting the Palestinian cause, standing by the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate aspirations, believing that justice, equality and respect for the rule of law are the foundations for achieving lasting peace.
