Oman’s container ports ranked as world’s fastest

The Sultanate’s ports have been ranked the world’s fastest for their speed of container handling by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

According to the UNCTAD annual index for 2020, container vessels stayed on average just 12.5 hours in Oman’s ports.

The ranking provides international recognition for the efforts made by Asyad Group and its partners in the public and private sectors to facilitate port procedures and to introduce the latest electronic systems and the best international practice in container handling.

It marks another step forward for the National Logistics Strategy 2040 which aims to make the Sultanate a global logistics hub by opening more direct shipping lines and building alliances with international navigation companies to improve the connectivity of the Sultanate’s ports.

The widely respected UNCTAD report says that Oman’s ports benefit from procedures such as pre-dated clearance in business operations, electronic processing of cargo data 48 hours in advance and the expansion of electronic services for making payments and exchanging documents.
