Joint statement of the Sultanate of Oman and the Arab Republic of Egypt

At the kind invitation of Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, His Excellency Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, paid an official visit to the Sultanate from January 22-23, 2022.

In an atmosphere of affection and brotherhood that embodies the depth of the distinguished historical relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Arab Republic of Egypt and the solid relations that bind them and their two brotherly peoples, and under the lofty directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and his brother His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, may God protect them, the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee held its fifteenth session in Muscat on Sunday, January 23, 2022 AD,

The Omani side was headed by Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman and Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, with the participation of a number of senior officials from the two brotherly countries.

The two sides reviewed the existing bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries and expressed their deep satisfaction at the high level that these relations had reached. They affirmed to move forward in working to strengthen the bilateral cooperation process in all areas of cooperation including political, security, economic, commercial, industrial, judicial, developmental, educational, media, labour and social development cooperation. They also affirmed to move forward in opening new horizons for them to achieve the aspirations of their leadership and the hopes and aspirations of their two brotherly peoples.

Emphasising the importance of continuing, strengthening and activating cooperation between the two brotherly countries, the two sides signed memoranda of understanding in the following areas:

  • Political consultations between the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
  • Housing and urban development.
  • Cooperation in the field of media.

They also signed executive programmes for:

  • Cooperation in the legal and judicial fields.
  • Cooperation in the field of tourism.
  • Cooperation between the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Education and Technical Education in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The two sides also discussed the most important regional and international issues of common interest and expressed their satisfaction with the level of political consultation and coordination at various levels with regard to regional and international issues of common interest.

The two sides affirmed their keenness to work together in regional and international organisations and forums in order to achieve their common interests and to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the peoples of the two countries and the achievement of international peace and security. They also affirmed their commitment to continue serious work to enhance the process of joint Arab action.

At the conclusion of the committee’s work, His Excellency Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome he and the accompanying delegation received from their brothers in the Sultanate of Oman.
