Bilateral relations
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, Oman and Saudi Arabia have enjoyed strong and well-established relations derived from the existing relationship between the two wise leaderships.
The border agreement signed in 1990 highlighted the level of interdependence and understanding between the two countries.
There is continuous consultation and coordination through the framework of bilateral relations, as well as through the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Gulf joint action framework.
There is a constant keenness of the leaderships of the two countries for joint coordination and exchange of views on various issues of common concern.

Key objectives
The most important objectives of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia include the following:
- Introducing Oman, its cultural values, foreign policy and international relations to Saudi Arabia
- Strengthening the bonds of cooperation with Saudi Arabia in all fields
- Taking care of the affairs of Omani citizens in the Kingdom
- Looking after Oman’s political, economic, cultural and scientific interests
- Supporting efforts to promote investment opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman
- Activating economic diplomacy, increasing trade cooperation and marketing Oman as a tourist and investment destination
Political and diplomatic cooperation
The relations of the two countries are characterised by their strength and historical authenticity, grounded in brotherhood, religion and good neighbourliness.
These relations are based on cooperation, continuous consultation and coordination of the two countries’ positions in a way that serves their interests and supports security and stability in the region and the world.
The mutual visits of the leaders of the two countries reflect the depth of these relations.
The Omani-Saudi Coordination Council contributes to sustaining relations between the two countries and raising them towards the level of integration, in order to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the two friendly leaderships and peoples.
Trade and investment
The Embassy works to coordinate joint efforts to enhance economic relations and cooperation in the fields of trade and investment.
It aims to take advantage of the investment opportunities available to serve the directions of the two countries to achieve the vision of Oman 2040 and the Kingdom's Vision 2030 including the goals and initiatives contained in the two visions for economic diversification.
The Embassy also works to follow up on various forms of economic and commercial cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
It focusses on the outputs of agreements, memoranda of understanding and delegation visits and facilitates the experience of investors in accessing the markets of the two countries.
Cultural, educational and scientific exchanges
The Embassy makes continuous efforts to promote cultural, educational and scientific exchanges between Oman and Saudi Arabia.
It promotes the Sultanate's cultural and tourism assets and coordinates the exchange of visits, experiences and participation of the relevant authorities in events, exhibitions and other activities.
The Embassy also holds a series of events and cultural evenings throughout the year.
Education is one of the most important aspects of cultural cooperation between Oman and Saudi Arabia, with the two countries exchanging scholarships.
