Oman leads Gulf representation in Russia-Gulf dialogue meeting

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Foreign Ministry, chaired the sixth ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, which took place in Moscow today.

Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, chaired the Gulf delegation, which was made up of the Foreign Ministers of the GCC countries and the GCC Secretary General.

The meeting reviewed relations between the GCC states and the Russian Federation. It also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in sectors of mutual interest, especially in the economic, investment, trade and tourism fields.

Views were exchanged on a number of regional and international issues of common concern with an emphasis on the importance of adhering to the rules of international law in resolving conflicts, through dialogue and other peaceful means.

There were also discussions on the need to respect the sovereignty and independence of states – the key to preserving a policy of good neighbourliness and peaceful coexistence and so strengthening security, stability and peace at the regional and international levels.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Almaskari, Head of the Oman Foreign Ministry’s Department for the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf and the Gulf Region, Hamood bin Salim Altowaiya, Oman’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation and a number of Foreign Ministry officials.
