The Embassy, ​​through the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman, works to strengthen ties of cooperation and to consolidate the existing friendly relations between the Sultanate and the United States of America.

Bilateral relations

As long ago as 1833 Sultan Said of Oman signed a treaty of friendship and commerce with a trade representative of the United States. In 1840 his envoy, Ahmad bin Na’aman, set sail for New York on the Sultanah, marking the symbolic inauguration of a diplomatic relationship with the United States.

There is therefore a long history of constructive bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States.

Oman has long worked with the United States to promote peace and stability throughout the Middle East.

In 2006 the United States and Oman signed a Free Trade Agreement providing a major boost to trade and investment links between the two countries.

The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman offers a range of consular services both to Omani Citizens visiting the United States and to American citizens or residents wishing to visit Oman for tourism or business purposes. These services cover:

Political and diplomatic cooperation

Oman and the United States are working together to build on the strong and mutually beneficial bilateral relations that happily exist.

Oman is also committed to working with the United States to promote multilateral solutions, based on dialogue, to pursue peace and stability both in the Gulf region and throughout the Middle East.

Trade and investment

The Embassy's mission is to work to build on the Free Trade Agreement with the United States to build sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.

The embassy is working to spread awareness of Oman Vision 2040, as well as the favourable tax regulations and foreign investment law that make Oman an attractive business destination for American investors. For more information please click here.

Cultural, educational and scientific exchanges

Oman works to promote cultural understanding and mutually beneficially partnerships with the United States.

The mission is always looking for further opportunities for Omani students to study in the US and for opportunities to promote mutual understanding between the two countries through cultural exchanges and outreach projects.
