New York: UN official praises Oman's sustainable development

Dr Rola Dashti,  Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), spoke of her admiration for the Sultanate of Oman's achievements in terms of sustainable development.

Dr Dashti was speaking during a visit the Sultanate of Oman's delegation to the United Nations, where she met with Ambassador Dr Mohammed bin Awadh Alhassan, Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

Dr Dashti said that the Sultanate's work in pursuing the objectives of Oman’s Vision 2040, are now showing results in raising Oman's positive credit rating for investments and its financial position.

The meeting reviewed cooperation between the Oman and ESCWA in a number of fields, including statistics, working with women and children, supporting youth capabilities and raising the competitiveness of the Sultanate in the field of science and technology.

Dr Dashti said that Oman is among the promising countries where young people constitute a high percentage of the population and that this will reflect positively on the Omani economy, giving it the vitality it needs and helping to diversify the sources of income for Omani citizens.

She added that the United Nations and the ESCWA are looking forward to further cooperation with Oman and other GCC countries, whose economies are linked to the global economy more than ever before.
